Editor buttons buildings
Buildings is used for inserting buildings. When you begin working on your mod, you don't need to pay much attention to this possibility. It is possible to add buildings from the original Shadowgrounds, but it is rather advanced and not recommended for novice users.

Editor menu buildings Models - shows you the list of building models available. This is a short list and only includes three buildings in the beginning. You can add new buildings with the Add button. Remove removes a building from the list.

Mode - allows you to choose between Insert and Remove/Rotate/Move. The first one inserts a selected building, and the second one will highlight a building in the level, and allow you to remove (click once), rotate (use the mouse wheel) or move it (use the arrow keys) when the building is highlighted.

Properties - allows you to set the Cut terrain option, which does... MORE INFO

Visuals - affects two visualization settings: Hide roofs hides the building roofs if checked (click twice again if the roofs are not hidden on the first click). Show doors highlights the doors in the missions... MORE INFO???

Using buildings
It is possible to use buildings from Shadowgrounds, if you really want. We suggest that you don't try to use the big buildings such as New Atlantis, or Alien Mothership etc. However, there are some smaller buildings that may be useful.

There are three buildings included in the Level Editor package as default:

securityoutpost_small A small "security outpost" used in a few places in Shadowgrounds. Probably very useful in most mods.
storagehall A rather large storage building, originally used in the first mission of Shadowgrounds (at the end). Could be useful in some mods.
repairhall In the original Shadowgrounds, this building was Wesley Tyler's repair base (i.e. the very first building in the game). Could be useful in some mods.

Inserting and rotating buildings is simple

If you want to use other buildings from Shadowgrounds, you must copy them from the Data1.fbz file to your mod directory. Buildings usually go to \Data\Models\Buildings.

Theoretically it might be possible to create new buildings in professional tool called LightWave 3D, and use these for your mod. However, you must be an expert LightWave user to do this, and this also requires some exporter tools that are not included in the first Level Editor release version (but will be in the future).

New controls for Buildings mode:

None (but please note that the default controls for buildings is a bit different; a mouse click will not select a building, it will actually remove it in Remove/Rotate/Move mode)
